Anyone mind if I float a suggestion for the 2017 F4i shotgun season?

Could we change "Standard" class to mean what it says - specifically no extended magazines? Cosmetic tweaks [fibre optic beads, different follower, polishing bits, different stocks] still fine, but shotgun capacity to be as it comes "off the shelf"?

This would permit shotguns such as the Mossberg 500 to compete [I know we start with 8/9 rounds loaded, but being able to slip in 2-4 more after the beep can make quite a difference] and makes the term "standard" more meaningful.

Anything with a magazine extension would then be in "Modified" [which to my way of thinking is what it says on the tin - a standard shotgun fitted with an extended magazine tube has, by generally accepted understanding of the word "modified" been modified].

LBP has a "limited" class - this would do the same for shotgun, and makes the terms "standard" and "modified" more apt.

Anyone want to run with this, or is it an unnecessary complication?

Compensators, ports and muzzle brakes put you in Modified in IPSC.

FIFY

A gun which would ordinarily be in Standard division but with a ported/compensated barrel won't put you in Open under IPSC rules (Appendix D - 7)

A valid point Steve but one you need to ask over on the NRA Shotgun League on Facebook but by all means link back here.

My thoughts are that though a valid and logical point, it would be a step too far away from IPSC and ruffle a lot of feathers as a lot of shooters shoot both this series and the likes of UKPSA.

If anything, IPSC were going the other way back in 2010-11 and there was a move to drop Modified altogether (just leaving Standard Auto, Standard Manual and Open). It never happened but Modified has never been very popular and was really a way to get around poor reloading skills. The box-fed guns (easier reloading) have marginalised the Division even further.

Not true at least here in Finland. Some of our fastest reloaders are shooting modified division and division is very alive.
One of our modified guy got 5 world championship medals of one match.
Has anybody ever done the same thing? I don't think so. :)
